Being Green, Going Green has received a lot of time in the media and people are becoming more and more aware of "green choices."
Do you bring in your own re-usable coffee cup every morning to your favorite coffee shop? Chances are you are using a fabric bag to bring home your groceries instead of the old paper or plastic alternatives.
The green initiative isn't just for consumers. Green initiatives can impact businesses in multiple ways:
- Hard savings with reduced printing and copying expenses,
- Productivity improvements with computerized forms, and
- Better information through single data entry.
The "paper-less office" has long been the goal of many businesses and with each new generation of computers and software we continuously get closer to reaching this goal. Consider the various paper forms in use within your organization today. Some examples might be:
- Purchase Requisitions
- Time Cards
- Vacation Requests
- Performance Reviews
- Invoices
- Work Orders
- Expense Reports
- Sales Orders
When a form is filled out and submitted, how many copies of the form are made and forwarded to others in your organization so they can process their part? How many times do you have to go back to the originator and ask for clarification because the handwriting is not legible? Do you have to routinely correct math errors on order forms or time slips?
Besides the paper and printing costs there is another significant cost to your business: Time! Consider the amount of time that is being spent by your staff on copying and forwarding the paper forms, requesting clarification because the hand writing can’t be read or re-calculating totals because the math is in-correct.
How much time is spent every day on these issues? Every week? Every month? Every year? It all adds up to a lot of valuable time wasted. Would your business perform better if your staff could focus on the hard issues instead of wasting time on these activities?
