 GREAT EXPECTATIONS

A Decade of Advancement for Growing Businesses

This month marks InnoTech’s 10th Anniversary, so we're sharing our thoughts on how far we've come with technology and in the industry – as well as take a peek into the future.

Small- and mid-sized businesses expect a lot more out of their computer systems and software today than 10 years ago – and rightfully so, as we consistently see significant shifts in technology every five years. Today the implementation of truly strategic business solutions is even more important to savvy business owners as keeping up with technology itself. That's why partnering with a custom software development project house like InnoTech can really add value. Following the old adage, don’t just do the technology because you can – look at the business need and find the right technology.

The Surge of SaaS.

Software as a Service (SaaS) is all about leveraging economies of scale. Defined as a system of software placement where an application is licensed for use as a service offered to customers, SaaS is hitting a hot button for smaller businesses – by allowing them to enjoy the same benefits of larger corporations that can afford to spend up to millions of dollars on the development or implementation of large internal IT systems that help manufacturing, inventory, accounting, and other workflow areas run more efficiently.

It’s a win-win situation. The SaaS provider picks up the tab and takes the risk for building a system application, puts it online, and makes it cost effective for small- and medium-sized businesses. In turn, the SaaS provider often charges a monthly or yearly subscription fee. Even better news for the smaller companies – because of the Internet-hosted environment, they don’t need the internal support of IT staff.

DON'T JUST HAVE A WEBSITE. HAVE ONE THAT WORKS.

Part 2 of 2

How can you go beyond offering your customers an improved experience after the sale (beyond tracking and shipping capabilities, technical support, and community forums)?

  • Integrate online ordering with your internal business capabilities. Efficiently maintaining data in one place so you don’t have duplicate entries.
  • Lower your per-transaction cost.
    1. Follow the 80/20 rule: make easy transactions or orders routine through the Internet – and leave the more complex transactions that take extra time to your staff.
    2. Learn how to effectively market back to customers who have already purchased from you. With the benefit of an already positive buying experience, repeat business is much easier to get.
  • Identify your demographic and their buying patterns – and then target promotions to them. Testing and measuring your online marketing success is easy when your website tracks your customers' transactions, helping you take advantage of promotions that work.
